Celtic Kinfolk

  My
Fisherfolk &  Farmfolk
of
Forfarshire  & Kincardineshire

Welcome to my new web site. Within these pages I will not only document my Scottish ancestors and their descendants, but I will also try to include information about their daily lives, their customs, their beliefs and many of the joys and sorrows that made them such special people.  They were hard-working, honest, reverent, and loyal, and the ones I knew were all great fun.

Among the Fisherfolk you will find the names of LEIPER,  MASSON, WOOD, CRAIG and MAIN with an occasional  CHRISTIE thrown into the mix. They made their homes and livings in the villages of Findon, Portlethen,  Muchalls, Downies,  Skateraw and Stonehaven along the North East Coast of Scotland. Nearly all fished the treacherous waters of the North Sea as their fathers before them had done.

My Farmfolk held the names of DON, GORDON,  DUTHIE, WALES and COWIESON.  These were farm labourers,  cattle farm servants and blacksmiths from the villages of Garvock, Logie-Pert,  Marykirk, Fettercairn, Benholm, Gateside, St. Cyrus and Craig by Montrose. Finally to Edinburgh and on to America.

The reader is reminded that information must always be weighed on the evidence and while every effort has been made to be accurate, mistakes and errors may happen.   Should you find inconsistencies or errors please contact me so that I may correct them at once.   I include my sources and where none are available it will be so noted.

This is an ongoing project and new information will be added often. There will be photos and newspaper articles, census records and more. I welcome any and all additional information you might have and are willing to share.

I hope you will look around at the other pages, and as my ever smiling Scottish grandmother always told departing visitors........”Hasten ye back!”
