Census

   DOWNIESFINDONPORTLETHENSTRANATHRA

My goal is to eventually have complete census returns for the fishing villages of Portlethen, Findon, Downies and Stranathra for the years 1841 through 1881.  It will be a time consuming endeavor, and may take me longer than I think, but hopefully it will be finished by the end of this winter (2002-03).

Not only will these records make my own family research easier to track, but I hope it will be of use to many others who are interested in these villages, their people and this part of Scotland. As each census return is completed, I will post it.  If I put up only part of a return, it will be so noted on the first page of that years data.

Although I try to be accurate in the transcribing of these records, I ask you to be aware that mistakes can occur, and that errors in reading these old records are more than just possible.  Should I not be certain of an entry or the spelling of a name,  I will enter the questionable data in red, thereby making it easy for the reader to know there was a question.  If you see an error, please tell me so I can make a correction.

To access a census return, click on the town name button at the top of this page, then click on the desired year.   At present, I am working on the 1861 census returns and they will be up very soon.   If the page is empty, please don’t give up.....I will get it up as soon as I can.
